Overview

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a 2005 fantasy film directed by Mike Newell, the fourth installment in the Harry Potter film series. The film is based on the 2000 novel of the same name by J.K. Rowling. The film follows Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) in his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogwarts hosts the Triwizard Tournament, a dangerous competition between three wizarding schools: Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. Harry is mysteriously chosen as a fourth champion, even though he is too young to compete. He must face three deadly tasks: stealing a golden egg from a dragon, rescuing his friends from the Black Lake, and navigating a maze filled with magical creatures. The film is a darker, more action-packed, and more mature entry in the series. It introduces new characters, including the charming but dangerous Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson), the arrogant Viktor Krum (Stanislav Ianevski), and the eccentric Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson). The film ends with the shocking death of Cedric Diggory, and the return of Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was a critical and commercial success, earning over $896 million worldwide. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Art Direction. The film marks a turning point in the series, as it becomes darker and more adult.
